Bringing Reading Schools Closer Together

Balancing the Budget is governors’ biggest challenge in 2020

The NGA have just published the results of its 2020 School Governance survey, with governors and trustees in the SE reporting that their top five issues are:

  1. balancing the budget
  2. staff wellbeing and workload
  3. ensuring a broad and balanced curriculum
  4. pupil wellbeing
  5. improving attainment

How do these compare to the challenges in your setting?

London and the SE also unsurprisingly reported the highest levels of concern about recruiting high quality senior leadership staff and teaching staff, with workplace culture being the largest factor affecting recruitment and retention.  Meanwhile, 2 in every 3 schools has reduced its support staff to mitigate budget pressures.
